Mission & Vision
The institution bases its academic and formation programs on;
- Vision: To be a priestly vocation’s orientation center offering integral formation and education.
- Mission: To educate the young boys and nurture in them seeds of priestly vocation; thus, enabling them to grow and develop in the Catholic faith with a spirit of responsible leadership and loyal service to the Church and State.
- Motto: “In Hoc Saxo”. Translated as “On this Rock”. This is derived from the text of scripture: “In hoc saxo Ecclesiam meam aedificabo” (Matthew 16:18; “On this rock, I will build my Church”), the words that Jesus addressed to St. Peter the Apostle who is the Patron Saint of the Seminary. The Seminary Day is annually celebrated on June 29th, the Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul.
General Objectives.
- To provide an all-round education based on the Catholic Christian principles that nurture priestly vocation.
- To groom future leaders of the Catholic Church in Soroti and leaders of our people.
- To provide an excellent academic background to the young in preparation for higher academic and intellectual advancement.
- To create a conducive environment for teaching and learning processes by providing basic inputs and updated relevant facilities including ICT.
Background
Advance (“A”) Level: The dream to start this Level in St. Peter’s Seminary Madera first appeared in the 2021 new year’s resolution of the Rector; Rev. Fr. Geoffrey Odongo Akiso on December 31, 2020. This dream was eventually brought to the attention of the Board of Governors in their meeting of June 5, 2021. The members unanimously accepted the idea and endorsed it for implementation in the academic year 2022.
In February 2022 we admitted eleven (11) students into S. 5 to do the Arts combinations. This pioneer class has successfully sat their Advance Level Examinations (UACE) and are waiting for results. Already eight (8) out of the eleven (11) of these students have indicated interest and applied to continue with priestly formation at the level of National Major Seminary.
For the academic year 2024, we are delighted to announce the start of science combinations at our Advance Level. The following combinations will be available to students interested in joining us: PEM (Physics, Economics/Entrepreneurship and Mathematics), PCM (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) and GEA (Geography, Economics/Entrepreneurship and Agriculture).
Ordinary (“O”) Level: This comprise of Senior One, Senior Two, Senior Three and Senior Four. These four years of academic and priestly formation act as a bridge between childhood and adulthood. It is a critical moment in the growth and development of the child as it largely includes formation of character and career aspirations. This level has been running in St. Peter’s Seminary Madera since 1983. The academic, human, spiritual and pastoral performance of our seminarians remains unmatched from within the region.
Skills Development: Here at St. Peter’s Seminary Madera, we prepare our seminarians for a happy and successful adult life. We transform followers of Christ into leaders who become change agents in society. They get equipped with skills such as healthy living, basic mannerism, public speaking, co-curricular, leadership and entrepreneurial.
Performance: St. Peter’s Seminary Madera has always performed to its best in Teso Sub–region. Our seminarians are widely admired for academic excellence and outstanding character inspired by Godly and Christian values.
